Missions for businesses vary as widely as the business themselves. Any new business worth its salt will plan for giving back from the very beginning stages of the company. In fact, it should be the mission core of the business itself since most companies exist to fill a need. Philanthropy in business must be insanely genuine. Don’t give back just for the sake of giving back. If philanthropy isn’t in your nature, you might want to consider hiring someone who has an objective position in your company to tackle the mission of giving back.

Why Giving Back Should Be a Part of All Missions for Businesses

Especially for small business, giving back can be a huge thing because smaller businesses have the privilege of being able to pitch in and serve a small community. Sticking to charitable giving and works as part of their missions for businesses can be wildly beneficial. Check it out:

Millennials Want to Work for You

A good bit of the chatter in the Internet Marketing realm these days centers around Millennials. Born between 1982 and 2004, they are the biggest generation since the Baby Boomers; therefore, that makes them the new target audience. 62% of them said they want to work for companies that offer volunteer opportunities. Their desire to have an experience rather than something tangible means philanthropy allows your business to offer a meaningful experience in exchange for fresh talent.

Tax Deductions

These are a given when it comes to business and charitable work and donations, but it definitely shouldn’t be your only reason. There are different ways you can spin this benefit as well. The easiest would be a one-off donation to a charitable organization; however, you might decide to do a group volunteer event where you give your employees a paid day to give back. You could also give a certain percentage of the revenue you make from selling products and services. In whatever way you choose to give back, just be sure you stick to the guidelines.

Customers Will Love You

Ultimately, philanthropy is free advertising for both your business and your cause. Posting pictures and generating a buzz around your chosen mission of giving back can attract the attention of the press as well as let your customers know that you care. It’s also possible that the non-profit organization you are promoting will mention you too. It’s really a win-win for everyone, not to mention, 85% of consumers prefer companies and brands that support charity especially if it’s one they care about personally.

It Makes You Feel Great

Nevermind all the benefits, giving itself gives back in the form of being a part of something larger than ourselves. No matter what size your business is, you have the power to do great things through the mission of giving back. That, in and of itself should be incentive enough for this to be a part of all missions for businesses.

Ways Your Business Can Give Back

Giving back isn’t always about these: $$$. You might be surprised by some of the ideas we’re going to share. The cool thing about this is that it means your business can start fulfilling its mission core right from the start even if it’s not yet profitable.

  • Volunteering – You can volunteer your time in more ways than one. You can volunteer just as a general helper or you can volunteer your expertise to help out a cause you believe in.
  • Mentoring – Have you ever considered mentoring someone? You should. You have knowledge and expertise to share that is gold to new people just starting in your industry.
  • Donations – This time, we’re not talking about monetary donations, but rather things like equipment, space, or extra product to name a few.

Wrap Up

Now you can see why the missions for businesses, including many of the ones you love, are grounded in giving back in some way, shape, or form. How are you planning to give back? Let us know in the comments.
